Middle School Connects With Local Organizations

March 1, 2018 – A few weeks ago, the 8th Seattle Academy Leadership Team (SALT) kicked off a hygiene drive to collect donations and to raise awareness for specific organizations leading up to the Seattle Challenge. The three organizations are Millionair’s Club, Facing Homelessness, and Urban Rest Stop, all locations that students may visit during the Challenge. The students researched and presented on these different organizations at a recent Monday morning meeting to inform the Middle School community of their missions, services provided, and opportunities to get involved. Following the final day of donations, the students tallied up the numbers and prepared the items to be transported. Here are some of results of our drive:

  • 213 toothbrushes
  • 185 travel deodorants
  • 536 bars of soap
  • 231 tubes of toothpaste
  • 326 pairs of socks
  • 1,376 feminine products
  • 237 packs of tissue
  • 10 safety vests
  • 112 razors

Recently, a few of the SALT members accompanied 8th Grade Coordinators and SALT facilitators, Hilary Bowen and Zac Townsend, on trips to Millionair’s Club and Urban Rest Stop. Not only did they have the opportunity to connect the drive to the organizations that will benefit from them, they also learned more about these organizations and the impact the donations can make. All were extremely grateful to our students and community. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped support SALT through this drive!
