7th Graders Recreate the Universe

March 8, 2018 – The Friday before mid-winter break was game day in 7th grade science as students played their own creations and learned about the Big Bang. As a concluding assessment for the astronomy unit, students created games about the Big Bang. Not only did these games give SAAS students a chance to show their creative and artistic skills, but it also provided students a method to share their knowledge about the Big Bang. The games varied significantly in their style and included everything from a cosmic version of Candyland to games played similarly to Magic the Gathering.

“One of the unexpected and positive results of this project were that students went beyond the material being taught and researched deeper into the creation and formation of the universe, learning more about the Big Bang theory. They were excited to learn!” said Andrew Harris, 7th grade science teacher. John King ‘23 shared this about the project, “I thought it was a ton of fun creating a new game, to teach people the Big Bang and to challenge them on questions about it.”
