February 15, 2012 – Seattle Academy junior Calin Washington was named the 1A WIAA State Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 12. He is the third SAAS athlete to be honored by the award this year. Girls’ varsity soccer player Sofia Barsher ‘14 and Calin’s teammate, Yaniv Shier ’13, won the award previously.
Calin closed out the week by scoring a career-high 30 points in leading the Cardinals to a 1A Tri-District first round 77-76 triple overtime victory last Thursday over Meridian. He also handed out 12 assists, had 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. He began the week last Monday vs. Bellevue Christian with a 15 point, 6 rebound, 3 steal performance. Calin then followed that with a 12 point, 7 assist, and 3 rebound game, also against Bellevue Christian. In three games last week, Calin averaged 19 points, 7 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Seattle Academy continues their quest for the state tournament tomorrow night when they host Chimacum at 7:45 PM in the Seattle Academy gymnasium.
