YUKON TRIP – SUMMER 2017
Offered to: Current 7-8th grade students.
Total Cost: $ 2650. The cost does not include personal gear and clothing requirements. However, many of those needs can be met through the school or by borrowing from previous students or families that have participated on trips. The cost does not include Medevac ($35-40).
Goals of the trip:
This trip is designed to place students in a group context, in a long term situation which will challenge them physically and emotionally. The physical stress of paddling the Yukon, setting up camps and taking care of oneself and helping take care of the group will promote character development in a meaningful way. The emotional challenge of dealing with a small group of people in a wilderness setting for an extended period of time will force students to work as a team, problem solve, and deal with adversity in novel ways. Students will be working in pairs to manipulate canoes, small groups to prepare meals and do camp chores and then be allowed to reflect on their experiences as a group during nightly campfires and as an individual through journaling or simple self-reflection during time on the river. We feel the overall wilderness setting will provide numerous opportunities for individual leadership and personal growth.
