Lam ’18 and Baird ’16 Named Finalists in Vocal Competition

March 16, 2018 – Senior Jaidyn Lam and alumna Alex Baird have been named finalists in the Fourteenth Annual Seattle-Kobe Female Jazz Vocalist competition. The competition is an exchange program with Seattle’s sister city in Kobe, Japan. Beginning in 2000, the winner of the Kobe Jazz Vocalist Queen Contest (held in Kobe’s Shinkaichi neighborhood, the birthplace of Japanese jazz) has visited Seattle to perform at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley. In 2005, the SKSCA launched a reciprocal program: a contest to send two female jazz vocalists from Seattle to perform in Kobe!

As part of this reciprocal program, two Seattle vocalists are selected, one high school student and one adult. The semifinalists are chosen based on their applications and taped performances. In the spring, the finalists perform in a live competition at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley. The winners of this final competition win an all-expenses paid trip to Kobe to perform at the Shikaichi Music Street Jazz Vocalist Queen Contest held in the fall.

The final live audition will be held on Monday evening, March 19, at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley. CLICK HERE to learn more or purchase tickets.
