Middle and Upper School Soccer Players Earn Accolades

May 12, 2010 – It has been a week filled with awards for Seattle Academy soccer players. In addition to several Middle School students competing at the state level on their select teams, the boys’ varsity team has been named the 1A Academic State Champions.

ACADEMIC STATE CHAMPIONS

The Upper School boys’ soccer team was recently named the 2009-10 1A Academic Team State Champions. The Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires Scholastic Award program is intended to recognize and reward those teams or groups that maintain a high collective academic standard.

Any team/group with an average GPA of 3.0 or higher qualifies for a state award. A team with an average of 3.00 – 3.49 qualifies for the Distinguished Team Award, where a team with an average of 3.50-4.00 qualifies for the Outstanding Team Award. In addition, the team/group with the highest average GPA for their activities and classification level is recognized as Academic State Champion. Seattle Academy won the 1A title with a 3.60 team GPA.

The team will receive their award at halftime of the Saturday, May 29 boys’ varsity playoff game at Sunset Chev Stadium in Summer. The game begins at 5 PM and the presentation will take place during halftime.

SELECT TEAM STATE COMPETITORS

Four of our Middle School athletes competed at the state level on their select teams.

Lucy Halperin ‘15 and Tayla MacPherson ‘15 play for the Emerald City FC F96 Green team. The team recently competed in the finals for the State Championship Cup. After winning six straight games in the cup tournament, the met Eastside FC in the finals. They lost 1-0 after 90 minutes of competition, with Eastside FC scoring the deciding goal with two and half minutes left in the second overtime.

Three Seattle Academy Middle School boys play for Crossfire Premier. Torin Corr ‘15 plays for the BU13 who won their second consecutive state title and will compete in the regionals in Albuquerque this June. Randy Hilleary ‘16, on the BU12 team, won their second straight state title. Duncan McCormick ‘14 is on the BU14 team which recently won their third straight state title.
