SAAS HOLIDAY DRIVE TO BENEFIT ASA MERCER MIDDLE SCHOOL
December 5 – 15
Please consider participating in our second annual holiday drive to benefit Asa Mercer Middle School. Of the 800+ students enrolled at Asa Mercer, 76% live in poverty. The teachers and staff at Asa Mercer have indicated that food is the greatest gift we can provide. Last year, we joined with Asa Mercer Assistant Principal (and alum) Katie Pearl ’97 for a very successful drive which raised over $3,500 dollars in gift cards in a little under a week. We hope to exceed that total this year to help even more families.
We are asking families to donate $25 or $50 Safeway or Target gift cards which Asa Mercer families can use at the Safeway and Target stores located near them. Gift cards can be turned in to any front desk by December 15. Questions? Contact Lauri Conner at lconner@seattleacademy.org.
BASKETBALL MANIA
Friday, December 16
First Game Begins at 1 PM COMPLETE SCHEDULE
SAAS Gymnasium
All families are invited to our annual Basketball Mania celebration on Friday, December 16. Basketball Mania is our opportunity to recognize Middle and Upper School winter athletes, enjoy our community prior to our Winter Break, and of course, watch some great basketball. All basketball teams participate in the event by playing or competing in half-time contests. Concessions and logowear will be available. We hope you can all join us for this great school-wide celebration. If you would like to volunteer to help with banners, set up the gym, or act as a greeter during the event, please contact Sheila Hanrahan at shanrahan@seattleacademy.org.
COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITY
Every holiday season, the Seattle Center Foundation hosts Winterfest, which runs from Thanksgiving through New Years Day. Volunteers are needed to help at the Fisher Pavilion Ice Rink during the holiday break from December 17 through January 1. No skating abilities required – just the ability to hand out skates. You are welcome to skate, if you desire, before or after your shift at no charge. These hours can be applied to your community service requirement by filling out the Community Service Credit form and turning in to Jodi at the CUB Front Desk. If you are interested, please email Salliecrowell782@msn.com and let her know the dates and times you are available and that you are a SAAS student or parent.
