Happy Friday SAAS Families,

At SAAS, the athletic program is an integral part of the school community and student experience. Our program is built on a balanced commitment to Participation and Excellence, which means we have a “No-Cut” Policy while also offering a range of competitive levels within the Middle and Upper School programs. We work hard to place student athletes in the appropriate competitive level. Below are some specific details for you and your student athlete regarding the Fall season.

  • In Middle School, we will be offering boys’ and girls’ cross country, boys’ and girls’ soccer, and girls’ volleyball.
  • In Upper School, we offer boys’ and girls’ cross country, boys’ golf, girls’ soccer, boys’ tennis, boys’ ultimate, and girls’ volleyball.

In order to participate in athletics at SAAS, each family must have read and acknowledged our Head Injury policy and a Sudden Cardiac Arrest policy. These forms will be available on Magnus Health, our online health records database. Families will be sent log on information for Magnus by the end of June.

In addition, each athlete must have a completed Physical Form prior to the first day of practice. ALL physicals for fall athletics are due by Wednesday, August 1. If you would like to check to see if your forms have been received, please contact Jodi Rea at jrea@seattleacademy.org.

  • Middle School – Turn outs for 6th grade fall sports begin on Tuesday, September 4. Turn outs for 7th and 8th graders begin on Wednesday, September 5. All athletes will have practices on Thursday, September 6.
  • Upper School – Turn outs for Upper School will begin on Monday, August 20. Athletes must complete ten practices prior to participating in a game, match, or meet. While we understand that some families might still be on vacation at this time, due to league requirements and game scheduling, we need to begin practices on the first eligible day of the season. More detailed information about specific times and locations of the turn outs will be sent home soon.
  • Turn outs typically last around 3 days, at which time athletes will be assigned to a team based on their ability and commitment levels. Students can be placed on any team, regardless of grade level.
  • Families will be notified of team assignments by email.

  • Middle School – Athletes should bring appropriate clothing (t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, sneakers) and gear on September 4 and 5. They will change in the Middle School restrooms and meet with coaches in assigned rooms in the Middle School directly after school. They will then board buses for their practice location. Pick up will be between 5 – 5:30 PM. Detailed information regarding pick up locations will be sent home later in the summer.
  • Upper School – Athletes should come appropriately dressed (t-shirts, shorts, sweatpants, sneakers) and with gear on Monday, August 20. More detailed information about specific times and locations of the turn outs will be sent home soon.

  • Middle School teams usually practice or play three-four times per week.
  • Upper School teams practice or play five days a week. Some teams might have regularly scheduled morning practices (for example: Tuesday mornings at 6 AM).
  • Given the above time commitments, students should only participate in one sport per season.
