Seattle Academy Students Spend Thanksgiving Helping Others

December 7, 2017 – Fifteen SAAS Upper School students volunteered their time on Thanksgiving morning to help serve homeless men and women as part of the 18th Annual Survive the Streets Thanksgiving Day event. The students, and family members, served the men and women breakfast sandwiches and coffee until the “pop-up” store opened for business at 8 AM, then acted as personal shoppers assisting the men and women in selecting backpacks, sleeping bags, and several clothing items including winter coats. Here is a list of the students who participated: Nina Alhadeff ’18, Emily Cady ’21, Hannah Davis ’19, Mei-ji Fong ’19, Natalie Graham ’21, Elli Hebert ’20, Makena Kerns ‘19, Lake Lewis ’18, Claire McHenry ’18, Miles Rankin ’21, Sam Rawlins ’21, Shiah Sarkowsky ’20, Sophia Schloss ’21, Rachael Su ’18, and Charlotte Zinda ’18.

And, thanks to the generosity of the SAAS community, we were once again able to donate four large boxes full of sleeping bags, blankets, and backpacks in support of the effort. For more information on Survive the Streets, visit their website at Survive the Streets.
