Seattle Academy Opens Our Fall Sports Season

Seattle Academy Opens Our Fall Sports Season

September 1, 2017 – Last week, six upper school sports (cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and Ultimate) held their first turn out practices. Middles school sports (cross-country, soccer, and volleyball) began this week. With over four hundred athletes participating this fall, which represents more than half the school, sports have never been more popular at Seattle Academy. This fall, the Cardinals will field nine soccer teams, two tennis teams, two cross-country teams, three ultimate teams, and two golf teams for a total of 25 teams! In addition, we had a record-number of girls turn out for volleyball resulting in seven teams. This growing program is looking forward to the added gym space that will be available with the completion of the Cardinal Union Building (corner of 13th and E Union) in the Fall of 2018.

“Our athletics program continues to grow with a record amount of teams this fall,” said Athletic Director Cathy Schick. “We have a great group of coaches and we look forward to a very exciting and successful fall sports season.”

Varsity Girls’ Soccer Coaching Announcement
When the Seattle Academy Varsity Girls’ Soccer team takes the field this year it will be under the leadership of two Seattle Academy alumni in Brooks Hopp ’08 and Achijah Berry ’10 as Rob Phillips, Associate Head of School (Head of School July 2018), is stepping aside after over twenty-one years of coaching the team.

You can catch all nine Seattle Academy soccer teams in action on the same day along with all three SAAS boys’ Ultimate teams when Seattle Academy holds their annual Fall Sports Mania on Friday, September 15, at Starfire. Games begin at 3 PM, culminating with the girls’ varsity soccer game at 7 PM vs. Holy Names.
