Seattle Academy Students Lead the Way in March for Our Lives Seattle

March 28, 2018 – Several SAAS students played major roles in Saturday’s March for Our Lives Seattle protest against gun violence. Sadie Cook ’20, Esme DeCoster ’18, Lake Lewis ‘18, and Avi Shapiro ‘18, each spoke before a crowd of thousands of participants.

Lake Lewis ’18 sang an a cappella version of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” at Seattle Center. Other students made the march from Cal Anderson Park on Capitol Hill through the streets of Seattle to Seattle Center where state speakers include Governor Jay Inslee and state Attorney General Bob Ferguson as well as performers such as Brandi Carlile and Dave Matthews. The march was one of over 800 such marches that took place across the world in reaction to the school shooting in Parkland, Florida on February 14.
