Senseney ’19 Wins First Place in Regattas

May 17, 2017 – Since last Spring 2016, Van Senseney ‘19 and teammate Marijke Jorna, are undefeated in four Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association (NWISA) district regattas. High school racing takes place in the fall and spring with competitive racing starting in February. There are a series of ten regattas leading into the district competitions. This is Van’s second season of competitive sailing in the same boats used for college and Olympic racing (FJ’s). Races this year included as many as twenty-two boats for individual racing. Team racing is a round robin format with two teams of three boats each competing over several heats. Van’s record with Marijke this year includes the following first place finishes:

May 21-22, 2016: Team Race Districts, Anacortes – 1st out of eight teams
April 18-19. 2017: Island Cup, Oak Harbor – 1st out of sixteen teams
April 29-30, 2017: Doublehanded Districts, Orcas – 1st out of twenty-two teams
May 6-7, 2017: Team Race Districts, Sail Sand Point – 1st out of fourteen teams
