September 19, 2017 – Yesterday, Adam Stelle ’05 officially launched Loftium, a new startup he co-founded with Yifan Zhang. Loftium helps home buyers with their down payments on the condition that they rent out a portion of their home on Airbnb and share some of the profits with Loftium. The company allows people who thought they might have to wait until they were older or settle for a less-expensive neighborhood to purchase a house now. Because of this novel approach to financing, Adam and Yifan had additional regulatory hurdles and required special federal approval. Loftium is partnering with Umpqua Bank initially and plans to offer assistance to fifty customers in Seattle before scaling the business to new cities and partnering with additional lenders.
